Life for Mauremys

The "LIFE for Mauremys'' project was designed to preserve the unfavorable conservation status of the iconic freshwater turtle species Balkan Terrapin (Mauremys rivulata) within all Natura 2000 areas in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, where it has been recorded.  My part was to create promo material for the youngest.

The promotional materials for the youngest audience include Mara, a river turtle mascot who is the hero of the project. Designed to educate through play, the materials consist of illustrated puzzles, a memory game, and posters, all created to engage children while gently introducing themes of nature protection and environmental awareness.

In addition to standard puzzles, we wanted to create an educational memory game where children match animals in their juvenile and adult forms. The game is designed to go a step further by allowing the cards to be assembled into a complete scene using a poster included with the set. Instead of traditional cards, we chose to create magnets, making the elements both interactive and decorative, usable together as a game or individually as playful educational pieces.

Alongside the picture book, we created two posters. The larger poster has an informative role, presenting the turtle’s life cycle and simple protection measures that everyone can apply in everyday life.

The smaller poster is designed as a playful, interactive activity, where children place stickers onto the scene to restore a pond—reinforcing what they have learned from the picture book through hands-on engagement.
